Monday, April 8, 2013 [Iroquois, ON, Canada] – Launched in 2012, the MC1 gets new features at NAB 2013 including on-air 2D squeeze back, voice over audio mixing and new EAS interfaces along with other enhancements. All of these new features are available at no charge to existing MC1 customers through a simple software upgrade.
The MC1 is a complete master control switcher on a single openGear card. It is fully featured and includes video mixing and keying, onboard animated logo storage and playout, relay program bypass protection, 16 channels of audio mixing, EAS and Amber Alert crawl generation and more.
“Last year at NAB we shocked the broadcast industry with the most affordable master control solution on the market,” said Brad Plant, Marketing Product Manager for Infrastructure and Video Servers, Ross Video. “As a dedicated hardware based solution, the MC1 offers robustness and reliability not found in PC based solutions – yet it’s more compact and cost effective than the traditional large dedicated master control systems.”
The MC1 has been designed to be integrated with virtually any plant routing system, in turn gaining direct access to router sources, and offering easy integration with the customers choice of automation system. An intuitive touch screen control panel allows for manual operator intervention when required.
EAS insertion, Standalone Squeeze, Standalone VoiceOver
Also new to MC1 is the systems ability to be used with or without a routing matrix. This makes MC1 ideal for cost effective stand-alone add-ons to existing systems, performing squeeze back effects, EAS insertion, audio and voice over, or stand-alone branding and keying in situations where a full blown master control switcher is not required.

Friday, April 5, 2013 [Iroquois, ON, Canada] – Ross Video, the company behind the openGear standard will launch openGear 3.0 at NAB 2013. The 3rd generation of this fast growing platform consists of a new powerful frame and companion control system -DashBoard 6 with PanelBuilder.
As the industries only open modular system, openGear has been successful in shipping more than 15,000 frames since its 2006 introduction. openGear currently has 49 partner companies on board creating technology for the platform, while offering the widest choice of available solutions to clients.
The new OG3-FR frame WITH 450 Watt power supplies doubles the power budget of the previous generation, adding gigE Ethernet connections to every slot in the frame. A front mounted display makes identifying frame IP address and critical alarms easy, while an advanced cooling system provides variable fan speed that is controlled by frame loading that maintains airflow and frame temperature. An additional 22nd slot has also been provided for frame specific storage such as slot names and IP address, and for providing an integrated reference distribution system. The front door offers easy access to the internal air filter for cleaning, and is completely removable without the use of tools – making fan maintenance manageable without having to take the frame offline. Full backwards compatibility with existing openGear solution is also maintained, which allows for a simple and easy migration path.
DashBoard 6 takes openGear control to the next level with many new features – including the revolutionary PanelBuilder. PanelBuilder makes building complex custom control panels for openGear systems as easy as click-drag-drop. Control buttons, signal presence indicators, audio meters and other openGear controls from any card in the openGear network and monitoring widgets, can be arranged on a screen and overlay backgrounds of a map or facility flow diagram. DashBoard 6 really cranks open the possibilities for tailored operator or engineer user control as well as monitoring panels for unique requirements.
“This is the natural evolution of our openGear platform. Looking forward, a platform must be able to manage solutions that are becoming more complex, more condensed, and more capable of using IT infrastructures,” explains Eric Goodmurphy, Director of Infrastructure business, Ross Video. “The new OG3.0 openGear platform is designed for the future of broadcasting and production.”

“The Senators have worked with Ross for over seven years, so when the decision was made to switch to HD, it made sense to partner with them,” said Stan Kertesz, audio and video production manager for the Senators. “Changing out our production equipment between games was an ambitious goal, but thanks to the team at Ross and the authorized Ross System Integrator, Blackwater Integration, headed up by Jesse Martello, we successfully completed the project in just five days. Ross worked with our team leading up to this changeover to ensure we were ready. On day six Scotiabank Place hosted a Senators game and we hit the ground running.”
“Switching to the latest technology mid-season demonstrates the importance that the Ottawa Senators place on their game day fan experience,” explains David Ross, CEO of Ross Video. “Fans are in for a sensory feast and we are proud to be a part of that. Go Sens Go!”
