Now in its seventh year, the STAR Awards (for Superior Technology Award Recipient) are designed to celebrate and showcase the preeminent technological innovations available to the broadcast industry. A panel of judges consisting of TV Technology editors and columnists reviewed a variety of products, examined the technical applications and their overall contribution to the industry, and then submitted their award nominees.
"Our panel of editors and columnists walked the show floor in search of innovative and ground-breaking new products," said Tom Butts, TV Technology Editor. "The products and technology we selected made the cut - they demonstrated their ability to help advance the acquisition and dissemination of audio and video in the professional video marketplace.”
“We are honored to receive the STAR Award for openGear at NAB2006,” said Eric Goodmurphy, Marketing Product Manager, RossGear. “Our goal is to provide customers around the world with the most flexible and advanced terminal equipment solution ever developed. The adoption of the openGear frame by other terminal equipment vendors, such as founding partners Cobalt Digital and Ward-Beck systems, provides customers with a unique opportunity to select products from a range of technology leaders without the requirement or investment in multiple frame standards. It’s great that our peers in the industry recognize our goal in developing the openGear platform as an innovative terminal equipment solution.”
openGear is a 2RU rackframe standard based on a modular backplane that can house up to 10 modules of any type. openGear modules are available from a selection of openGear partners allowing customers the flexibility to pick the best module for their application. Customers are no longer locked into one manufacturer for their terminal equipment solutions. openGear also provides the platform with a web-based control system that allows quick and easy monitoring and control of openGear frames and modules on the network.
“We are absolutely thrilled to receive the STAR Award for openGear,” said Gene Zimmerman, President, Cobalt Digital. “As partners, we are pioneering a new way to address the conversion equipment needs of our customers and Cobalt Digital is proud to be a part of this innovative technology.“
The openGear founding partners include, Cobalt Digital, Ward-Beck and Ross Video. At NAB2006 Ross formed a new openGear partnership with Claratech, specializing in digital video fibre optic conversion.
“It’s an incredible feeling to receive the STAR Award at NAB2006,” said Michael Jordan, Director of Sales, Ward-Beck. “There has been a lot of interest in openGear at the show and we look forward to advancing the technology.“
