Indosiar Standardizes on Ross Synergy Switcher Family

PT. Indosiar Visual Mandiri is one of the largest leading TV Stations in the Indonesian market, having one facility and six OBVans. The facility, located in Jakarta, currently has four Synergy SD Production Switchers. They consist of two Synergy 1’s, one Synergy 2 and now with the newest purchase, two Synergy 3’s. One of the Synergy 3 switchers is installed in the studio while the rest of the Synergy’s are in OBVans. Before Synergy, we also had previous experience using Ross with a RVS 216 which we purchased in 1996 and still currently use for our news editing.

I am the Manager in charge of all of the engineering operations and maintenance in Indosiar. All the operations of the studios and OBVans are under my supervision. We produce a variety of shows such as reality, music and sports programs.

We opted for the Ross Synergy SD Production Switchers because our analog switcher no longer met our requirements and we wanted to go to a fully digital workflow. The Synergy line has numerous features to choose from and is user-friendly. The switchers are very cost-effective. This is very important to us as we continuously grow with our live programs.

One of the major strengths of all Ross Switchers is that they provide a complete set of switchers ranging 1 MLE to 4 MLE which they call a family. Synergy family components can be moved from one system to another as they are fully compatible. If extra DVE channels are required for a one time special event, a DVE board from another system can be transferred. In addition, this family compatibility concept truly provides us flexibility when it comes to future expansions. This is one of the major key reasons we standardized on Ross Production Switchers.

We are constantly growing at Indosiar and it is very important for us to move towards the cutting edge technology so we can compete in the marketplace and regain our position as the number one broadcaster in Indonesia. We have already been the first facility in Indonesia to operate on a Synergy 3 Production Switcher.

We found installation of the Synergy’s very simple. We were able to install the switchers with our own personal staff and some help from Ross’ local partner, PT Afandi. The training from Ross was clear, concise and well paced. We have had no operation issues and have been able to train new staff on our own.

The Synergy Production Switchers are robust switchers and good to work with. The switchers have been easy to maintain and highly reliable.
