Automatic HD/SD Scaling
SoftMetal Servers can automatically perform on-the-fly up / down resolution scaling.
Ancillary Data
All vertical blanking information, including Closed Captioning data is faithfully recorded and played back.
Audio
Records 16 tracks of audio with each video clip. Audio may be recorded from discrete AES or embedded inputs. Audio can be played out embedded and/or discrete AES.
Time Delay / Instant Replay
As video content is being recorded, it is available for immediate playout - great for time delay and instant replay applications.
Ganged Playout and Record
SoftMetal supports ganged playout for video + key, video + video or left eye + right eye for 3D applications.
Mixed Format Playout / Record
SoftMetal can play and record multiple resolutions simultaneously. This is useful for HD/SD simulcast or multi-screen applications. Different resolution clips can be played back-to-back with no change to system settings - just load and play!
Software Codecs
All codecs in the SoftMetal Video Server are implemented in software. This allows for future expansion as new standards evolve.

Lightning-fast cue times means your production doesn't have to wait.
Graphics Playout
SoftMetal provides native Targa file and Animation codec support for still or motion graphic playout.
Flexible, Expandable Storage
SoftMetal offers field-expandable storage with up to 12TB. A choice of RAID 5 or 6 protection allows the right balance between storage capacity and fault tolerance. Remote RAID management and monitoring tools are provided. All hard drives are non-proprietary and not micro-encoded.
Remote Protocols
Sony BVW, VDCP, Odetics and AMP Protocols are all supported via the 8 RS-422 serial ports or IP-based control.
