SoftMetal Overview

The Video Server has evolved into much more than a simple VTR replacement. As your facility evolves from video tape to digital file, you need a system that meshes seamlessly into your IT environment, yet still provides you with the rock-solid performance of a dedicated piece of broadcast gear.

Ross engineered the SoftMetal Video Server to plug right into your IT network. SoftMetal uses a networked control scheme - allowing distributed control from anywhere on your network. It supports file based workflows - allowing content to flow nicely from editing to playout and SoftMetal is constructed using IT Server Grade components - for easy maintenance and support.

We also haven't forgotten that a broadcast environment demands more than a simple computer in it's mission-critical path, so we've built a server to the same robust and exacting standards you've come to expect from all Ross Video equipment. SoftMetal offers features such as redundant hardware and solid signal interconnect panels, giving you a video server you can rely on.

Transfer

Industry standard codecs, such as DVCPRO HD, XDCAM, IMX and more. AVI, MOV, MXF or TGA file wrappers. Use standard Windows networking or robust FTP file transfer conduits.

Create

Designed from the ground up to work well with file-based media, SoftMetal meshes easily into your content creation workflow. Flexible software codecs, easy file transfers and integrated transcode engine provide the tools you need!

Manage

Bundled client software: Play, Record, MediaManager, Configuration and Transcode. Client software can be run locally or remotely via network control.

Ingest

With 1, 2 or 4 HD/SD input options, record content through the Record Client software or remote automation control. Ganged record allows locked record of video + key, mixed or matched resolution content, or stereoscopic pairs. Capture audio either from embedded or discrete AES inputs.

Control

Working in concert with the powerful device-control capabilities of your Vision and OverDrive production environments, SoftMetal is an ideal companion for clip and graphics playout, bumps, teases and more. SoftMetal also integrates nicely with other production switcher and automation system brands.

HD. SD. Mix and match. Ganged playout or independent channels. The choice is yours!

Replay

Remote Control via Odetics, AMP, VDCP or VTR protocols. Ethernet and serial interfacing. Smooth interpolated slo-motion.
