Customer Success Story

Church of the Highlands

Church of the Highlands is a non-denominational, Christian mega church in Birmingham, Alabama. It is a multi-site church with campuses in several Alabama cities. In addition to the primary church experience, Highlands offers church online as well as an extensive prison ministry hosted at many correctional facilities in the state of Alabama.

Highlands main campus has three separate venues that are used for Sunday services. Their main auditorium seats 2400 people – the room in which they did a switcher upgrade.

The Challenge

Highlands current switcher had very limited functionality, and they didn’t have a real system for video routing. The switcher was outdated, and as the ministry continued to grow it was necessary that they made some infrastructure improvements.

The Solution

Having previously purchased Ross for three of their offsite campuses, Highlands liked the opportunity to keep some measure of consistency, and decided to purchase a Carbonite eXtreme in the Spring of 2014. Carbonite eXtreme would be able to offer them the combination of a routing switcher and production switcher all in one chassis.

“The purchase of Carbonite eXtreme opened more doors for us. It offered us more inputs and outputs, which in turn created a substantial amount of flexibility, and the ability to do more creative things.”

The Result

“The routing flexibility with the Carbonite eXtreme has been great. We are now able to do so many things because of how we can route sources throughout our building, to our recording devices, and to our campuses. It has introduced us to a whole new level of freedom to try different things.”

With Carbonite eXreme, Highlands can provide a live cut to optimize their audience’s IMAG experience, and also send externally to their online audience and campuses. Also, due to the flexibility of their M/E setup, they are able to ensure that they can send different feeds to each audience as needed. They are also able to embed audio, take advantage of multiple AUX outputs, bring more sources into the router itself, and maintain more flexibility over outputs that are sent throughout their building.
