Ross Connects Montana Station Group Using Horizon

Sunday, April 23rd, 2017 [Las Vegas, Nevada, USA] – The Montana Television Network is the first to launch a connected newsroom workflow using Ross Video’s Horizon connector for Inception News.

Operated by Cordillera Communications, the Montana Television Network includes five newsrooms across the state, serving most of the state of Montana and parts of Wyoming.

“With all five stations on the same NRCS platform, we were excited to take them to the next level with Horizon,” said Shawn Snider, Ross Video Product Director for Inception and Horizon. “It allows each station to be distinct and maintain their own content, while also sharing through simple drag-and-drop workflows.”

KTVH in Helena launched a new workflow with Ross Video’s innovative newsroom computer system (NRCS) Inception News in 2016. The four remaining newsrooms – KPAX, KRTV, KBZK, KTVQ – also transitioned to Inception News this month. In addition to using Inception’s powerful story-centric and multi-platform capabilities, the station group became the first to launch a connected workflow using Horizon.

“Cordillera is excited to have the Montana Television Network on Inception with Horizon,” said Sean Franklin, Vice President Engineering/Technology at Cordillera Communications. “It allows our newsrooms to easily share content and publish to multiple platforms without leaving the NRCS.”

Horizon acts as a connector between Inception systems, passing information and enforcing permissions between sites. When logged into Inception, users can discover assignment information, planning notes, social media, web stories and traditional broadcast rundowns and stories from other Inception systems. Horizon makes it possible to search all types of content across the Montana group with a single click.
