Ross Video Rises to The ICC’s #CelebrateCitizenship Challenge

Ottawa, Canada, May 13th 2019 – Every year approximately 100,000 people are granted Canadian citizenship. The final step in their application process is the citizenship ceremony. For many, this important day marks the end of a long journey that has brought them to Canada from the four corners of the globe and represents a new beginning for them and their families. Earlier this month, the Institute for Canadian Citizenship (ICC) issued a call to companies to allow their employees to take paid time off to attend their citizenship ceremonies.

The #CelebrateCitizenship campaign was officially launched at the beginning of May by ICC CEO Yasir Naqvi. A recent ICC–Leger poll shows overwhelming support for the idea: 8 in 10 Canadians think that people should get time off work to attend their citizenship ceremony and over half believe it should be paid. Speaking to business leaders at the Economic Club of Canada, Yasir Naqvi said, “Small gestures can have enormous impact. By giving their employees paid time off to attend their citizenship ceremonies, Canadian companies are doing their part to foster an inclusive society and sending a clear message to new citizens that they belong.”

David Ross, company CEO, is delighted to rise to the challenge and Ross is proud to be the first large technology company in Canada (and the first in Ottawa) to offer paid time off to employees attending their citizenship ceremonies. Commenting on the company’s involvement, David Ross points to his ongoing investment in Ontario. “Ross Video is a proudly Canadian company. We employ people all over the world, but our core R&D and manufacturing facilities are in Ontario. Our continued success requires the hard work of Canadians, and people who have become Canadian while working with us. We’re delighted to take part in the Celebrate Citizenship Challenge and support the people who have chosen to make this beautiful and multi-cultural country their home.”
