This multi-venue church needed to make sure its message reached its growing congregation clearly.
Barker Road Methodist Church (BRMC) has more than 3,000 members and celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2026. Alongside in-person worship, the church streams two Sunday morning services to YouTube and other venues on campus, so its wider community and anyone who’s unable to attend on-site can take part.
BRMC’s journey represents a growing movement among churches to connect worship spaces and bring people together, wherever they are. As congregations expand and become more distributed, these connections matter more than ever.
With its growing congregation, BRMC saw an opportunity to upgrade its livestream system. The aim was to better support live services and connect venues without making production harder for staff and volunteers to manage.
Rising production needs were testing the reliability of a production stack assembled over time.
Reliable systems were vital during services. As BRMC’s audience grew, the old setup, built up over time, could not keep up. The team handled live streaming, internal feeds, complex routing, delayed telecasts, and simultaneous broadcasts, all with just a small group of volunteers.
BRMC needed core systems that could run all the time and handle five English worship services at its Barker Road campuses every weekend. The old setup was not designed for this. The team decided to replace it with infrastructure built for continuous use and fewer breakdowns.
They needed more than just better stream quality. They wanted a system they could rely on to manage multiple venues and accommodate changing schedules and production needs week-to-week.
Ross Video built a system designed for flawless, easy-to-manage live production.
BRMC’s first project with Ross Video was part of a major renovation. After talking in detail with the Ross team about their needs and future goals, they chose a complete video production setup with Ultrix at the center.
Ultrix sits at the heart of BRMC’s system, routing signals to and from the Sanctuary and external venues over fiber. Carbonite powers on-site live-stream mixing, while a Tria handles program recording and delayed multi-channel playback for venues that aren’t in sync. The same setup also supports their broadcasts to the local school, making it easy to send audio and video between spaces for their chapel.
The way the system was put together was just as important as the technology. The Ross Video team and their partners worked closely with BRMC, looking at every option, considering the pros and cons, and designing a solution that fits their needs now and in the future.
The new Ross system makes services more enjoyable for the whole congregation.
For the Barker Road crew, one of the biggest changes has been workflow simplification. Previously, tasks that required additional systems or manual operation could take hours to set up, creating extra work during and after broadcasts.
Combining everything into an Ultrix-based system made it easier to run and update, with fewer things that could go wrong. Delayed telecasts that once needed a vMix computer and a dedicated operator can now be recorded and played back by anyone on the team after just a few minutes of training. With tools like Bitfocus Stream Deck, DashBoard panels, and RossTalk integrated, daily tasks are easy to manage, so volunteers can focus on creating a great worship experience for everyone.
The result has been a better experience for everyone, from pastors to volunteers and the wider congregation. There’s less downtime, fewer eleventh-hour issues, and more confidence that the team can adapt as production needs change.
