Clash Royale World Finals

SECTION 1

Introduction

OGN, formerly known as Ongamenet, stands as one of the original and most esteemed esports production companies globally.

Established in South Korea, OGN initially focused on covering the video game StarCraft: Brood War. Over the years, OGN has expanded its reach beyond South Korea, now providing programming and production services for various games, including PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG), Clash Royale, Hearthstone, and more.

The Challenge

As OGN hosted the Clash Royale League World Finals in different locations, they required a dependable and high-powered mobile production solution for the 2019 edition at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall. The solution had to handle in-venue LED screens and enable broadcasting to multiple linear and online partners in three languages. Additionally, OGN sought a solution capable of automating stats from a game API data stream and incorporating multi-camera tracking for live augmented reality inserts.

The Solution

To address these challenges, OGN turned to Ross Production Services (RPS) and their esports solution. After extensive discussions and design revisions, the Production team at OGN found that the full Ross esports solution offered the condensed workflow and efficiencies they needed.

RPS partnered with Ross Video’s creative arm, Rocket Surgery Virtual Productions (RSVP), to build and deploy the show. Custom DashBoard panels were used to control the full suite of Ross and third-party products, allowing for real-time show triggering at the push of a button. The team also leveraged Ross Video’s UX toolkit to create an Augmented Reality Virtual Studio enhanced production, elevating the event’s overall quality.

The Impact

The decision to collaborate with RPS and implement Ross solutions proved to be a game-changer for OGN. RPS provided lighting, LED screens, crew, and equipment, to streamlinine the production process. By optimizing resources, such as using one Technical Director and XPression operator for multiple broadcasts and screens in different languages, and one replay operator to monitor reaction cams and observer streams, OGN achieved significant cost savings on equipment and staffing.

The Clash Royale League World Finals earned widespread acclaim within the esports industry as one of the most polished and well-produced events of the year. The seamless integration of Ross solutions and RPS expertise ensured a flawless execution, leaving a lasting impact on participants and audiences alike.
